For Christmas I received a large stack of stickers that all simply declared, “You Are Beautiful.” My Sister-in-law explained that she had been giving them out to people everywhere she goes as reminders to people of how beautiful they are. She thought I would like to give them out to my clients. “You Are Beautiful” Could these three little words be so strong? “You Are Beautiful” are words that many people struggle to accept or identify with for themselves but have no trouble seeing beauty in others and in the world around them. How can someone learn to identify with their own beauty?
There are many ways to start to identify with your own beauty, strength and positivity. Living in the strength of your beauty means learning to quiet our voice of insecurity, self-doubt and criticism. The voice of judgment that runs throughout the day bringing you down, telling you that you are not good enough or fall short. Learning to ignore or tune-out that voice is a good start. We can tell that voice simply to ‘STOP’ and at the same time tell ourselves positive and encouraging statements to start to replace the negative voice. Being mindful about giving the positive voice more attention. We can even start to repeat the positive statements aloud and not just repeat them over in our head. The more we repeat the positive messages, the stronger they become, the more we can start to accept them as true. Repeating a positive statement to yourself at least three times in a row, several times a day, can help connect to the statement. To strengthen this statement even more, look at yourself in the mirror while repeating your positive statement. This may feel uncomfortable at first and disingenuous, but keep it up and eventually you will start to identify with your beauty and strength.
You are beautiful because you are you. To help with the process of committing to your beauty and strength, focus on doing beautiful things throughout your day. Forgive yourself when you are not living in your beauty. Learn to judge yourself and other less.
