When I was growing up, I had trouble sleeping. All the time people would tell me to ‘just fall asleep’. Telling someone with anxiety to ‘just not think about it’ it easy to say but how do you, not think? Is ‘not thinking’ really the answer? Anxiety is more than excessive worrying. Anxiety can be triggered by environment, a person or people, stressors like finances, medication, diet, memories, etc. It does not have to come from what we are consciously thinking about. Anxiety can be very complex. Even how it presents can be complicated. It is all or any of the following; nail biting, sweaty palms, hot and red face, shortness of breath, rapid heart-rate, impulsive behavior, pulling out hair, skin picking, nausea, chest pain, body aches, fear, and many more. Some people experience anxiety as depression, others as intense fear, others as a feeling of ‘crazy’.
